Variety: Cabernet Franc 

Charles Joguet, an artist and sculptor by trade also had a love for growing vines. The artistic expression often came out as he would see winemaking from a fresher perspective than other conventional winemakers in the Loire at the time. Charles realized the potential of his vineyard holdings was comparable in quality and diversity of soils to those in Premier cru and Grand Cru sites. While his family had been selling this fruit to negociants for generations, he opted to change the destiny for this exquisite fruit. He began to bottle his wines by vineyard site and procured labels with an artistic flare the region of Chinon had never seen before. 


This rose comes from 30 year old vines in Chinon. The wine is made from the direct press method, or the saignee method. It is fermented in tank to retain as much freshness as possible. Fun fact: This is the second rose importer Kermit Lynch added to his French portfolio.

Variety: Chardonnay 

There the name Dauvissat is a common one, though this domaine is unrelated to the others. What makes this domaine stand out is that its current winemaker is Fabien, Jean's grandson, is an up and coming producer just barely into his thirties. Believe it or not, there are still many who do not farm organically in the region of one of France's most iconic wine regions; Chablis. After taking over from his father, Fabien has converted farming to both organic and biodynamic. Aging is a slow and steady one with aging happening over 18 to 24 months making for a wine that is both honest and modern. The wines have just landed in Cincinnati over a year after Kevin enjoyed them in a bistro in Chablis. 

This bottle is a blend of two vineyards - Mont-main and Sourdelle in the town of Beines. Fabien believes these vineyards have the same quality and uniqueness as those from Premier Cru sites.

Variety: Syrah, Viognier 

This very tiny operation has been run since 1935 in the northernmost village of Cote Rotie. The original vineyard, now known as “Les Grandes Places," shares its land with other growers where Syrah is the focus. This family, however, has embraced another clone of Syrah known locally as Serine. This Syrah is known to be low yielding, something quite rare in the Rhone as many set their sights on higher yields. The family is also known for their focus on pioneering organic farming, something that still sets them apart from other growers. 

Harvested early and vinified using 30% whole bunch, winemaker Guillaume Clusel uses the white grape viognier in small parts to add lift and elegance to this traditional wine. Clusel has farmed organically since 2002 and continues to make improvements to the vineyards and cellar.

Variety: Gamay

Born to two vignerons in Champagne, Anne-Sophie was only 25 years old when she took over eight hectares in the heart of Fleurie, in 2007. She has quickly become a rising star in Beaujolais, taking techniques she learned while working in Volnay to create gamays of intense elegance and finesse. 

These grapes are harvested from a southwest facing vineyards in Fleurie where soils are highly granitic. Anne-Sophie refrains from using new wood and instead ages this wine in cement vats and larger neutral oak casks.

Variety: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon

Domaine Arnaud Lambert, spearheaded by Arnaud himself, was established through the merger of two labels in 2017: Domaine de Saint-Just (his family domaine within the Saumur-Champigny appellation) and Château de Brézé (a historic Saumur estate with an enviable collection of vineyards that the Lamberts signed a twenty-five year contract starting with in 2009.) Through his vinification of individual plots, such as Clos David, Arnaud highlights the diversity of soils and individual sites within the Saumur appellations. His farming is all done biodynamically and his winemaking champions minimal intervention techniques. 

Harvested from Lambert’s chalkiest holdings in the lower part of Clos du Midi, this wine is vinified using the méthode champenoise and aged for 24 months sur-lie.

Variety: Sauvignon Blanc

In the short list of producers coming out of Friuli, Ronco del Gnemiz is at the top of it. Period. Described as “pure renderings of nature,” these wines are an exceptional homage to their distinct terroir. Serena Pazzolo is the main face behind Gnemiz, though her husband Christian Patat, and their sons help to manage the vineyards and facilities as well. The family acquired the property in the 1960s, though like many of those in winemaking families–it took the drive and vision of a singular person to move the needle forward. Serena is known for the integrity of her biodynamic farming. Each vineyard is managed individually, from pruning to treatments to harvest, allowing for very individual expressions from plots located right next to one another. Making ‘cru’ level wines from separate vineyards is just one way Gnemiz stands out in the region. Utilizing compost made with local herbs, intervention is kept to a minimum and immense patience is practiced in the cellar. The wines are never rushed resulting in wines of uncompromising quality.

This plot is located in the nearby village of Buttrio, which has a slightly warmer microclimate than their other holdings. Grapes are pressed whole cluster and fermented in used barrels and 650 liter wooden vats with no battonage.

In the short list of producers coming out of Friuli, Ronco del Gnemiz is at the top of it. Period. Described as “pure renderings of nature,” these wines are an exceptional homage to their distinct terroir. Serena Pazzolo is the main face behind Gnemiz, though her husband Christian Patat, and their sons help to manage the vineyards and facilities as well. The family acquired the property in the 1960s, though like many of those in winemaking families–it took the drive and vision of a singular person to move the needle forward. Serena is known for the integrity of her biodynamic farming. Each vineyard is managed individually, from pruning to treatments to harvest, allowing for very individual expressions from plots located right next to one another. Making ‘cru’ level wines from separate vineyards is just one way Gnemiz stands out in the region. Utilizing compost made with local herbs, intervention is kept to a minimum and immense patience is practiced in the cellar. The wines are never rushed resulting in wines of uncompromising quality.

This wine comes from Merlot vines have been rooted in the Bellaria vineyard for over 100 years. The site is co-planted with a Refosco (10%) and both varietals are harvested at the same time and co-fermented. Aged for 20 months in 50% new and 50% used barrique.

Sourced from the family’s oldest parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon which are 60+ years average, and blended with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, this plot typically makes up about 30% of the Rosso blend. Aging is done in 50% new oak barrels.
